Devonshire Park Primary School competition winnerPublished on 20-05-2013 12:14PM
Jessica Jones, a year six pupil at Devonshire Park Primary school in Prenton was presented with her prize for finishing second in the recent ’Create an Ad’ competition with Let’s Go! magazine. The Wirral wide competition took schools from across the borough and matched them with prominent local businesses. The year six classes then acted as creative agencies and designed adverts for those businesses, to be published within the Let’s Go! magazine. Each pupil within the class designed an advert and the business owner chose the best example to publish which was also entered into an overall competition to find the best adverts from the whole of Wirral.
Devonshire Park school was paired with the Britannia Spice Indian Restaurant in Parkgate and Jessica’s entry was selected as the the winner by restaurant owner Samros. Her entry was published in the magazine and went on to the final of the competition. A panel of industry experts then assessed the merits of all the 20 winning entries and selected three winners who all received prizes for their efforts. Jessica’s advert was awarded second place in the overall competition and she was presented with a personal DVD player and a selection of DVDs from Let’s Go! publishing and was also invited to enjoy a free family meal at Britannia Spice as a special thank you from Samros.
The competition proved hugely popular with all involved and produced a huge number of attractive, engaging and persuasive adverts for those businesses involved. Pupils were able to combine their art and literacy skills in a practical way with a specific goal. They proved they could work to a dedicated brief; within a specified timescale which also gave them a taste of a real life working environment.
