Kaya Drums are a team of musicians and artists. They encourage self-esteem, self-expression and creativity, as well as teaching our skills to absolutely anyone who is willing to have a go. Kaya's workshops and projects have been experienced in schools, youth groups, corporations, community events, music festivals and many more places across the UK and abroad for over 10 years now, with only positive feedback.

“I have worked with Alex (Kaya) in a family learning context, graffiti workshops and drumming workshops and he is always reliable, punctual, organized and works brilliantly with adults and children alike, however challenging their behaviour. If I have a project that I think Alex could do he is always my first port of call. I have absolute confidence in his abilities and it is always fun working together.” Emma Procter, Extended Schools Network Co-ordinator, Trafalgar School, Downton

Kaya workshops support the aims of the National Curriculum (Key Stage 1 - 3 and Foundation Stage) by enabling pupils to learn about controlling sounds and creating and developing musical ideas while also understanding world cultures – African Native American and more. The most popular workshops are African Drumming (and Arts),

Interactive Rhythm Circles and Native American Workshops. The workshops are always fun, dynamic and stimulating. You can learn traditional rhythms and improvise your own. Interaction is essential and they promote team spirit and awareness of each unique contribution to the group. Everything is learned through colourful and imaginative exercises and games, integrating confidence building, group cohesion, self expression, personal skills and lots of fun.

African Drumming (and Arts):

Drumming - Using drums from across Africa the group is taken on an adventure through African music, each with their part to play. Learn dynamics, teamwork and musicality through the roots and rhythms of Africa. Art - Large scale backdrops, African shield and mask making all bring the vibrant colours and motifs of Africa to your workshop. Dance - Move into a world of dance and explore African culture through movement. Produce dance sequences and build them into a workable performance ready routine.

Interactive Rhythm Circles:

These workshops are a fantastic platform to encourage self expression, build confidence, educate and engage. All workshops are fully interactive and are accessible to people of all ages and abilities. The range of different percussion instruments is outstanding.

Native American Workshops:

Learn Traditional Songs, Stories, Drumming, Traditional Crafts and Cultural Practices. Kaya can run the workshops in classrooms, the hall or our Sioux-style Tipi. Kaya Drums are proud to have trained and worked with the Wolf Clan Teaching Lodge and Seneca Indian Historical Society; a non-profit educational institution which is dedicated to preserving and  disseminating the teachings of the Seneca Indians.
