A circus skills workshop is an ideal class activity that can be taught to children of all ages and abilities. It provides an excellent catalyst for group interaction and involvement, with an almost magical ability to engage and enthral all participants. In addition to the physical benefits of this active pastime, everyone who participates will gain a genuine sense of achievement as they begin to master the elementary skills required to perform tricks they thought impossible. Concentration, perseverance and focus will be developed as your pupils tackle these new skills as will their balance, communication and rhythm.
Skills such as juggling with scarves, clubs and balls or rings can be taught, as can use of diablos, unicycles, spinning plates, tightwire, devilsticks and pedalgos (depending on group size and age). Central to every workshop is the getting everyone involved and having fun and such is the appeal of this unique experience that is never a problem. Circus skills can also be a powerful tool when working with otherwise disaffected or pupils and can help to break down barriers, re engage and open communications.
Jim can provide workshops as a one off or several in succession throughout a school day. These can be combined with a performance for the class or a whole school assembly where he can showcase some of his many talents to inspire your pupils for the lessons ahead. Jim is also available to hire solely as a performance artist, either as an end of term show or as part of a school fete or other event and in addition to his stage show he can deliver ‘performance walkabouts’ where he will mix and mingle with the crowd in one of many amusing and inventive costume characters.
