Mosaic artist Tracey Cartledge delivers one of-a-kind projects in schools and colleges. She is a sculptor and a professional member and North West RegionalCo-ordinator of the British Association for Modern Mosaic and also a member of the International Association of Contemporary Mosaicists.

Tracey enjoys working with teachers to plan art projects that support, enhance and enrich the core curriculum.

“Based on clear learning objectives and specific aims, every school art project and workshop is imaginatively tailored to suit the pupils involved, the facilities available and the outcomes required.

At the heart of all of these engaging visual arts projects is my commitment and enthusiasm to encourage each individual to achieve beyond their own expectations and to enjoy the experiments, adventures, accepted failures and ultimate successes of their own personal creative journey.”

Team-building skills, creative learning, developing school grounds, exploring materials, artistic expression... all of these valuable benefits and more can be achieved in one exciting, inclusive and instructive school mosaic project.

This project allows 30 children to work (in pairs) with the artist over the course of 3 school days to design and create 15 large (40cm diameter) mosaic stepping stones for the school grounds.

WORKSHOP DAY 1: 3 design workshops (10 pupils/group/session), duration 1.5 hours /session

WORKSHOP DAY 2/3: 5 casting sessions (6 pupils/group/session), duration 1 hour/session

WORKSHOP DAY 3: Cleaning & finishing sessions (each with 6 pupils), duration 25 mins/session

During the process, school staff will (if they want to!) receive training from Tracey so that they can run similar projects in the future themselves. School Mosaic Kits and refills are available for future projects.

The price of this package is £950, which includes all materials - frost-resistant ceramic tiles, concrete mixes, protective gloves, cloths, moulds, trowels, buckets and other equipment provided by the artist, preparation, completion and contact time, public liability and all other insurances.

It does not include travel expenses to schools outside the Greater Manchester area.

Enhance learning with a fabulous one day workshop all about Roman Mosaics. The workshop is available for KS2, KS3 and KS4, tailored accordingly, and includes:

• Inspirational slide show presentation – “Classic Roman Mosaics”

• Introduction to materials and techniques, including use of cutting tools for older groups

• Every pupil designs and creates a Roman style mosaic (max 30 pupils, arranged in 3 groups of 10)

• Completed mosaics will be taken away, grouted and returned to school by courier for full class (KS2). Smaller/older groups will grout their own work as part of the workshop.

Working with a group of up to 15 pupils, this workshop provides the opportunity for each student to make a small fridge magnet mosaic and a medium sized wall plaque mosaic of their own design.

In the first activity, the class will work together step by step, under Tracey's instruction, to master the basic techniques. The follow-on activity allows the students more freedom and they will be encouraged to work individually at their own pace. Tracey will demonstrate the grouting procedure which can then be carried out with the class teacher at a separate time when everybody's mosaics are set and dry. Each student will be given a 'completion pack' and their own presentation box to take their mosaic home in. (It makes a great gift box).

For schools outside the Greater Manchester area, travel expenses will be charged in addition to the workshop price, which includes all materials.
