Techniquest Glyndwr is an educational charity based in Wrexham, offering support to schools in ensuring that their science, maths, technology and engineering meet National Curriculum standards from FS1 to KS4. The Techniquest Science Discovery Centre is perfect for school visits with 60+ fun and engaging, hands-on exhibits highlighting the importance of science in everyday life.
“I just wanted to express how impressed we were with your visit. Both members of staff were incredibly efficient, organised and flexible and were wonderful with the children. They are a fantastic representation of your company, and I would like you to pass on our personal thanks.” Donna Cooke, Year 6 teacher, Ysgol Frongoch
The Centre is also home to Techniquest’s Interactive Science Theatre which gives visitors a chance to see science in action. Techniquest employ a dedicated team with a wide range of primary and secondary school teaching experience, who are on hand to answer any questions and ensure that teachers and students are motivated to make the most of their visit.
Techniquest provide educational challenge workshops for Foundation Phase and KS2 level at the Science Discovery Centre. The workshops – lasting 30 - 45 minutes can be incorporated into a structured visit and introduce pupils to a range of key scientific areas (including forces and motion, scientific enquiry and life processes) by incorporating into them into exciting workshops with intriguing titles such as Mars Mission Madness, Dragon’s Dinner and Bodies and Bones.
Techniquest’s work extends beyond the Discovery Centre as the workshops can be taken to schools as part of their Outreach program. Alternatively they will supply kits of easy-to-use equipment for teachers to set up their own demonstrations and hands-on workshops in the classroom or for use as promotional materials on open days. Make maths and physics fun using Techniquest’s Maths Kits (available for KS2 and KS3) and Forces Kits (available for KS2 pupils).
Inspire your class to literally reach for the stars as part of Techniquest’s StarDome Planetarium Show which is perfect for putting on in your school hall and takes pupils into the Solar System and through the constellations. The shows last around thirty minutes including a questions and discussion session. Other shows include CellDome, (discovering animal and plant cells) and ColourDome, (a light and laser show teaching about light and colour) and can be tailored to meet the age and abilities of your pupils although there is a StarDome Planetarium Show designed specifically for KS3 pupils.
Whether at the Science Discovery Centre or in your school, Techniquest Glyndwr provides a perfect opportunity for pupils to get excited about science and its importance in the modern world in a hands on environment or engaging and interesting performances.
