SAFE (Supporting Art For Everyone) is a thriving community arts organisation which works with local schools and community groups to provide unique artwork for public spaces. With an enviable range of skills and knowledge and many community practitioners at their disposal, SAFE strives to create positive opportunities for personal and professional growth through socially inclusive creative projects.
“We constantly strive to open up heritage to as many people as possible and we’re committed to involving people from all walks of life. This project is a prime example of that and we’re delighted to have been able to fund it ... many of the children involved suffer from behavioural problems or social welfare orders but that doesn’t mean that they’re not interested in heritage ... This project will bring heritage to the kids – they even get the opportunity to handle thousands of years of history ... by learning about their own heritage we hope their self esteem improves and pride in their city is restored.” - Tony Jones, North West Regional Manager, Heritage Lottery Fund
Since 2000, SAFE has overseen more than seventy significant arts projects across the region and has achieved positive social and educational outcomes for thousands of participants during the process. The company prides itself on tackling current topics that engage children and have previously explored themes of environment, local history and community regeneration, to name but a few.
The company strive to inspire, working across the entire spectrum of creative media, from the more traditional artistic outlets such as painting and drawing to cutting edge ventures - such as digital arts, metal fabrication and sculpture. The ‘signature’ artistic medium of SAFE is mosaics, due to the inclusive nature of the process which allows all members to actively participate and indulge in expression both as individuals and also as a unit.
