Scottish Opera

Scottish Opera's annual Primary Schools Tour is one of our longest established and most popular education programmes with around 10,000 children accessing the performances each year.

Each tour helps teachers all over Scotland deliver aspects of A Curriculum for Excellence for P5 to P7 pupils. As well as making learning exciting, challenging and creative, it allows up to 100 pupils to participate in a high quality, day-long music theatre workshop.

Each school that participates in a tour receives:

· High quality teaching resources, including a teaching pack and CD to help teach and introduce the music and related activities.

· An advance visit from a specialist choral musician.

· A day-long workshop with a team of highly experienced arts education specialists and performers.

· A 30 minute performance for family, friends and schoolmates to share, with full technical support, costumes and props.

Workshops for Secondary Schools

Scottish Opera offer workshops for secondary school pupils, linked to their school curriculum. Led by Scottish Opera staff, these workshops are designed to explore the music, characters and background to a selected opera. Participants are also offered the opportunity to see the opera in their local venue, giving them the chance to see everything they’ve learned live on stage, performed by professional singers.

We will be doing workshops for S4 - S6 pupils (based on Standard Grade and Advance Higher Grade Music, Drama and English) and various community groups all over Scotland this autumn. If you would like more information about these workshops, please contact Judith Riddell, Education Manager on 0141 332 9559
