Are you looking for the ideal fun, educational junk music group? Then ‘Whack It Smack It’ is the group for you. Here they are with Xylo-chairs, Elephant horns, Pan-de-moniums, Pop tubes, Buckets, Bowls, Games and Happiness.
We are multi-instrumentalist / Singer-songwriters with a passion for multicultural arts. Our junk instruments are inspired by world ethnic music with rhythms based on the global heartbeat.
‘Whack It Smack It’ demonstrate a range of beats, chants and tunes in a fun and friendly manner which carry the message of Reduce, Repair and Reuse. We understand the need for community cohesion and aim to do this through our music.
Our company has a strict equality and none abuse policy which we practice with all our staff and workshop participants.
We also play Ukulele, Banjo, Melodeon, Mandolin, Guitar, Mountain Dulcimer and perform as a Ceilidh Band (complete with caller).
We provide workshops and demonstrations for a wide community which are aimed at:
Teamwork- To enhance the skills of negotiation, listening and group identity.
Economic well-being- Everyone can afford an empty bean can and a handful of gravel.
Achievement and Enjoyment- All skills we teach are achievable, enjoyable and cater for the needs of the individual.
Creativity- It is a basic human instinct to be creative on our own terms.
Recycling- Although we do not push the message down unwilling throats, we do drop heavy hints.
All Workshops are preceded by an introduction to the enormous range of musical opportunities presented by every day objects (buckets, bowls, drainpipes, tin cans and plastic bottles) You name it, we play it!
Workshops last for between 1 and 2 hours dependant on group age and ability. We can supply junk at extra cost but encourage groups to supply their own. Workshops are a combination of making, playing and musical games. They are energetic and noisy with participation encouraged.
