Film & Video Workshop

We have been running film and animation workshops in schools and at our media centre in Islington for 15 years.  In that time have helped over 10,000 young people realisetheir dreams and creative potential, and to produce animation and film of a high standard. To many children animation is a magical art form and until the process is explained to them they feel it is beyond their grasp. Our workshops are unique as they de-mystify the animation process and we offer a supportive environment where the children can explore their ideas and be inspired to learn from others. The children are led through every step of the filmmaking process from original conception to finished product.

The workshops are a very hands-on and rewarding experience for the children and their teachers who get to learn new filmmaking, computer and storytelling skills. The lucky children who get to make their films learn many new skills which enrich their lives and enable them to express themselves through a new form of communication, combining a variety of techniques – through storytelling, using computers and technology, and puppets/objects etc.

In many British schools the children come from many different cultures, and filmmaking is the perfect tool for allowing these children to express themselves through the diversity of their cultures in an accessible, entertaining and visual way by telling their own stories. We run after school clubs, half-term and holiday clubs and workshops in school curriculum time and workshops can be tailor-made to suit your needs. All of our tutors are CRB checked and have extensive experience of working with children of all ages and abilities.

Animania - is a one-day workshop in your classroom. We will bring in 16 animation/editing stations, each with a camera.

The children can work in pairs or singularly and will be expertly guided through the process of producing an animated film. Your class will learn how to use the equipment, storyboard their films, animate them and finally create a sound track – all in the same day. A couple of weeks later we will post you a DVD and put the films on YouTube.

Improving Literacy - We provide a range of resources that will enhance your teaching of literacy through working with animation.

This includes ideas on how to read and discuss films as well as relating the children’s media literacy with their writing skills. Linked to the literacy strategy and developed with a range of schools we are confident that the workshop will make a difference. This workshop

Our lead Tutor is Kevin Griffiths, BAFTA award winning animator and educator. All tutors are CRB checked and trained in child protection, equal opportunities and good classroom management. They are professional animators who are passionate about teaching and have at least five years experience working with children in school.
