'A wonderful two days! All classes were engrossed in their workshops, Emily engaged all age groups well and everyone was inspired to have a go – even the adults! Definitely the highlight of our Book week.'
Sarah Johnson Head of Year 6, St Martin’s C of E Primary School, Folkestone
I design my comics and illustration workshops to tie in with curriculum topics of your choice. The sessions have the power to engage pupils with writing, character creation and drawing in addition to their current topic.
• Online Workshops
• Age range KS1-4
• Suitable for schools, SEND settings & other arts & cultural settings.
I’d like to offer flexibility with workshop bookings to support you during this uncertain time. Bookings can be pencilled in and will need to be confirmed a minimum of two weeks ahead of the date. This will include school visits and online workshops.
Choose from comics, illustration or picture book workshops with optional curriculum themes such as heroes and villains, myths and legends, Ancient Greece, Chinese New Year, Black History Month or a topic of your choice. I also provide sessions for World Book Day and literacy/arts weeks.
In a typical session I show the group my portfolio and demonstrate how I create characters. I introduce them to some inspiring illustrated fiction then teach them to draw a character step-by-step. I take the group through the fundamentals of character creation, then support them in creating original characters and either comic strips or picture book plans.
I now provide online sessions to your classroom. I've recently worked with Spring Grove School, Hackney Libraries and Museum of the Home to deliver sessions through Google Meet and Zoom. Workshops can include the same elements as classroom sessions, including a live drawing demo.

Please contact me with your booking query for more information and pricing. A discounted rate is available for full day bookings, which can include four sessions with different year groups and topics. I include a printable ‘learn to draw’ activity sheet to use as you wish and a guidance sheet for teachers to support pupils in creating comics.

‘What I really enjoyed was the level of challenge that followed the introductory task. Everyone was fully engaged and seemed to gain confidence as the session progressed. There was a very happy, industrious atmosphere in the room.’ Naomi James, Teacher, Old Palace Preparatory School , Croydon.
