It's Him Entertainment

It’s Him Entertainment is a small entertainment company specializing in juggling and other circus skills. The company is run by Nigel and Tracey who are both multi-skilled performers with many years’ experience of juggling, close-up magic, fire-eating and fire-breathing, stilt-walking, balloon modelling and other more esoteric ones like plate manipulation.

They provide circus skills workshops to much different groups and in several different formats and have taught in all types of schools, all over the country. As a qualified secondary teacher, Nigel has the experience of handling large groups of children, as well as the knowledge of how to use circus skills to teach a particular message.

Circus skills workshops in schools are available in two basic formats:

Workshops during the school day (often a single day with a number of different classes) or after-school sessions (generally spread over a 5-week period). During the sessions pupils are taught a wide variety of manipulation skills (e.g. juggling, diabolo, devil stick etc.) and balance skills (e.g. feather balance, stilts, tight-rope). Obviously the more time with a particular group of students, the wider and more in-depth the skills taught.

Many schools like the one-day format because they can include it as part of a theme. Some previous themes have included medieval, sport, art, or even workshops in French. Other schools prefer the after-school format as the students have more time to develop and are able to work towards both putting on a show and receiving certificate.

Fees are dependent upon the location of the school but are generally about £250 for a whole day or £600 for an after school programme. Often the after-school sessions are funded by the students rather than the school and to facilitate this ‘It’s Him’ can provide an assembly a week or two before the course to encourage participation.

Research suggests that juggling improves hand-eye coordination leading to better reading skills, can increase brain size, can raise self-esteem in less motivated pupils and reduces stress. In addition, it can be used to teach better classroom skills (such as listening and concentrating), Physics (different forces, transfer of energy etc.), History (Nigel is the first official English Heritage Jester), Mathematics (there is a whole Open University program on the mathematics of juggling and also features Nigel), Drama (constructing a show, use of humour, use of props).
