Forte Theatre group have joined School Select with their unique offering of theatre workshops which include:

The Bouffon technique being Forte Theatre’s initial workshop kick started their reputation throughout the South of England. Bespoke workshops, Commedia Dell’Arte and Mask shortly followed, and finally Stage Combat and Improv Uncovered were added to Forte Theatre’s repertoire of unconventional workshops.

Developed in the streets of medieval Europe in the 14th Century, Bouffon, a specialised form of clowning was the theatre of the day. Bouffon is a sophisticated and grotesque physical theatre performance technique suitable for GCSE to A-Level students.

Commedia Dell’Arte is the art of exaggerating the truth, caricature. The Physical Theatre performance style comes with comic gags, romantic escapades and fights for character supremacy. Forte Theatre brings to you this fantastical technique with the larger than life stock characters, quirky half masks, improvised and structured performances along with Forte Theatre’s trademark character devising process to create these frenzied caricatures.

Stage combat is a specialized technique in theatre designed to create the illusion of physical combat without causing harm to the performers. It is employed in live stage plays as well as operatic and ballet productions. The term is also used informally to describe fight choreography for other production media including film and television. It is a common field of study for actors and dancers and is closely related to the practice of stunts.

Workshops aim to…

  • Give students the opportunity not just to ‘do’ theatre but ‘experience’ it.
  • Promote the knowledge, appreciation and practice of The Arts.
  • Give a fresh approach to workshop delivery.
  • Offer memorable experiences and to create an enjoyable atmosphere.
  • Achieve an active approach to learning.
  • Influence others as we have been influenced ourselves; with inspiration and a desire to create.
