Mosaic Art Ltd is a collective of professional and experienced artists who work with schools to create site specific artwork, which is installed in the school grounds. Their projects are individually tailored and provide apractical and collaborative approach to the national curriculum requirements. They can be adapted to all levels and bring together different disciplines.
“Every day I see girls gathered around the mosaic and it has become a real focal point for the school. The mosaic is a great source of pride for the school and everyone involved. Tamara and Sylvia utterly fulfilled what we set out to do and really made the history of the school come alive in mosaic.” - Judith Woodings, Head of Art, Marymount School, Kingston upon Thames
Participants learn about the materials, the making process, and the basic skills. They then work together to make their owndesigns come alive in mosaic. The use of simple geometric building blocks has proved to be a valuable teaching tool, which helps to develop spatial awareness and manual dexterity. Children of all abilities and disabilities can excel and we have found that taking part is a rewarding experience for all involved. Groups develop a sense of unity as well as pride and ownership in the resulting artwork.
With former project themes ranging from local life and exploring nature to the history of the school, Mosaic Art Ltd offer an inclusive and alternative way to engage children in depending on the scale of the work. The large scale projects champion the benefits of teamwork and encourage appreciation and respect for all cultures while the impressive end product yields a sense of achievement for all.
To get the most from the project the company requires a brief consultation that determines where the piece will be situated (interior or exterior) how many children you wish to involve, the age group and the topics or themes to explore. This mutual understanding ensures that the project can be carried out inline with the design and time requirements of the school. The projects are suited to both primary and secondary school ages, and give children the chance to take part in the entire creative process from the initial idea through to the rewarding conclusion, with results that promise to stand the test of time.
