Welfare Without compromise
Our animals are extremely important to us, and The Animal Roadshow is committed to providing a quality service to clients, while ensuring that the wellbeing of our animals is of prime importance. The following Code of Practice, to which we adhere at all times, encapsulates our company policy with relation to the use of animals in our work. As the underpinning husbandry and welfare principles for our animals, we have adopted the “THE FIVE FREEDOMS”, formulated by John Webster (Professor of Animal Husbandry at
BristolUniversity); these principles are internationally accepted as best husbandry practice:
Freedom from Hunger and Thirst - by ready access to fresh water and a diet to maintain full health and vigour.
Freedom from Discomfort - by providing an appropriate environment,
including shelter and a comfortable resting area.
Freedom from Pain, Injury or Disease - by prevention or rapid diagnosis and
treatment.
Freedom to Express Normal Behaviour - by providing sufficient space,
proper facilities and company of the animal's own kind, where appropriate.
Freedom from Fear and Distress - by ensuring conditions and treatment
which avoid mental suffering.
