Abantu Arts is an African arts education company seeking to raise awareness of African music, African dance, and African art which is full of vibrant and time-tested wisdom. They run a variety of bespoke African culture and curriculum enrichment workshops, incorporating drumming, dance, story telling and singing and they operate throughout South West England – Devon, Cornwall, Dorset and Somerset.
“Abantu Arts have brought a flavour of African music, culture and laughter to the school and their passion for their music and their unfailing cheerfulness have been a real tonic at this busy time of the year, as well as providing an appropriate focus for World aims week. I would certainly like to use them again next year if not sooner.” Headmaster, Truro School, Cornwall
Workshop
Abantu supply authentic African drums and percussion instruments to your school or group and lead students through a memorable experience of music, community, and the discovery that everyone has a rhythm to share! Emphasis is placed on learning how to play together through listening, cooperation, respect and teamwork. Workshops explain the origins of the different instruments and how they are played in different parts of Africa.
Drum workshops are custom-tailored to be age appropriate and Abantu are equipped to work with Pre-School through High School up to university with ideal class sizes of 25 – 30. A typical session will last between 45 minutes to 1 hour if working with one specific group continuously as longer than this for children or fist time drummers would test endurance.
Abantu Arts strive to be leaders in creative, authentic, African Cultural education workshops and programs that help to support curriculum subjects. Their African drumming, African dance, African story telling and other African arts workshops are run at competitive and reduced prices and they also facilitate global awareness days, fair trade days, Africa week projects, African music and arts week and more. Abantu Arts offers a wide variety of African music shows and workshops for any age or ability which can be tailored to your specific needs. They have a range of interactive African Music shows, concerts, events and other workshops all led by experienced African workshop leaders.
Their curriculum enrichment days consist of a one day African workshop starting with an interactive assembly, followed by a series of 45 - 60 minute, practical drumming, dance or story telling workshops linking to PHSE and literacy, numeracy and other subjects.
Abantu’s teacher INSET day workshops help teachers develop their own African arts skills, and will impart ideas they can expand to run their own African music sessions and arts workshops. These are also perfect for team building events, teachers conferences and more using African drumming, African dance and story telling.
